“Everyone is going to want to join the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz after they see Under The Boardwalk. This heart-felt documentary shines a well-deserved spotlight not only on the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz, but also on the very real pleasure that comes from making music with others. In focusing on Santa Cruz, the film reveals one of the key reasons for the current global resurgence of the ukulele.”

—Jim Beloff, author of “The Ukulele, A Visual History.”

Five years in the making, Under the Boardwalk-A Ukulele Love Story chronicles the history, community, and joyous spirit of the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz. Although Santa Cruz is a small town, it boasts the largest ukulele club in the world. With as many as 200 people at monthly meetings and an email list approaching 2,000, the Santa Cruz Club offers a performance venue for all comers as well as for the best ukulele performers from the west coast and Hawaii.

What gives the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz its magic? Under the Boardwalk explores how an eclectic community of amateur musicians comes together to find meaning in life’s little pleasures.
